I just read a book called "Ask Not". Its alluding to John Kennedy's "Ask not what you can do for your country . . ." It's not about that. In fact, I'm pretty sure the Kennedy family won't like this book.
The subtitle is "The Kenneys and th Women They Destroyed". If you don't like your heros dethroned, don't read this. I knew a good deal of this before, but there was way more than I realized.
The father, Joe, had a daughter lobotomized. He did it because she was retarded and I guess made the family look bad. He didn't talk to anyone in the family, even his wife. The daughter was then put away in a home far away and pretty much wasn't spoken of ever again. JFK makes Bill Clinton look like a choir boy. Edwrd Kennedy is just pathetic. RFK Jr. was a terrible husband. It's good he's not running for president anymore or a lot of bad news would have come out. JFK Jr. and his wife and her sister were killed in a plane he was flying. He flew in terrible weather conditions even though experienced pilots warned him not to. Other lesser known Kennedy men caused great harm to other women. I know the Kennedys have had a lot of bad things happen in their family, but a good deal of it was self inflicted.
I've never bought into the idea that if you're rich and/or popular you can get away with a lot. Prosecutors and judges should be wise to that. but the Kennedy's always seemed to be able to lawyer up and get the media to take their side as the Kennedy's routinely put the blame on the women.
RFK Sr. came out pretty much unscathed in the book and the wives pretty well, although not totally, but the Kennedy men have just been awful. They not only haven't paid the price in the courts; JFK, etc remain extremely popular with the general public. I guess we all need to work on become extremely rich and popular.
