Apple's Top Albums

Apple came out with their 100 greatest albums of all time. I was quite surprised at how many were on the list that I had problems with. So what did I have problems with?

1.) I didn't know alot of the artists. Robyn, Burial, Erykah Bade - I'm not familiar with these people. If they made some of the greatest music of all time, shouldn't I have heard of them? I haven't kept up with all of the music scene, e.g. rap, but still...

2.) A problem with the music. Music has to be able to be hummed. If not, its not really music. I came up with that a while ago and I think its a pretty good definition. Rap songs with people talking rhythmically doesn't make it. Its closer to poetry than it is music. Adding a rhythmic background while your doing your poetry is fine. Still not music, though.

3.) A problem with lyrics. I don't listen to any song or album that has a "Parental Advisory" label or "E" for explicit. If you need to emphasize something, then learn the language better so you can express yourself without resorting to shock value.

Well that cuts my list down by quite a bit. I went through Apple's list and chose from them the ones I would consider Top 100 material. There were only 22 that made the cut. From there, I came up with a Top 10 list. In no particular order:

Hotel California - The Eagles

Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Elton John

Like a Prayer - Madonna

Tapestry - Carole King

Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen

Revolver - The Beatles

Pet Sounds - The Beach Boys

Rumours - Fleetwood Mac

Thriller - Michael Jackson

Songs in the Key of Life - Stevie Wonder
