Best Games #5, 6

The fifth and sixth best games I've every seen in person are as follows:

#6 - Vikings vs. Seattle. I figured it was the final season for my hero, Fran Tarkenton. And he happened to have a game against Seattle. That was as good as I could have hoped for. Sadly, it was still an eight hour drive, but I'm coming Fran. He played great. He completed like 60% of his passes, had two touchdown passes and a touchdown run. He had a scramble that seemed like he literally had eyes in the back of his head. That wouldn't have done a lot of good anyway since he was wearing a helmet, but you get the idea.

Another guy I liked, Jim Zorn, led Seattle down the field for a field goal as time expired to win the game. That put a damper on the eight hour drive home, but at least it wasn't another Super Bowl loss. This would have ranked higher if it was a win, but I am so glad I got to see it.

#5 - Phillies vs. Dodgers. Another hero of mine, Pete Rose played in the game. He and Fran were a lot alike. When they retired, they owned the most important records. Fran - most TD's, completions, yards, etc. He's not in first place anymore because all they do is pass now, but at the time, he had all the passing records. And Pete had more hits than anyone. They both had down moments. Fran made it to three Super Bowls and lost all three. Pete bet on some games and got penalized hugely for it. (I'll resist further comment.) But getting to see him was fun.

Also, Steve Carlton, one of the best pitchers ever, threw a two hit shutout in the game. A pitcher going a complete game and getting a shutout just doesn't happen anymore. Carlton had 55 of them. The current active leader now is Kershaw with 15. Good job, Steve.
