They used to call it bubble gum music. They don't seem to now. I'm not sure it really even exists anymore. I used to and still do love it. Its just light hearted and fun. I've thought about it since David Cassidy passed away a few days ago. The Jackson 5, The Partridge Family, Bobby Sherman, The Monkees, Donny Osmond (OK, I did hate him), etc. It wasn't profound, e.g., "Yummy, yummy, yummy, I've got love in my tummy", but I don't care. Don't listen to the words, just listen to the music. And after you're done you get to keep listening, because you can't get the song on of your head. In fact, right now all I can hear is "Yummy, yummy, yummy, I've got love in my tummy".
Everything now has to have some edge to it. Its got to be rap or have explicit lyrics or something. Boo, contemporary music. My favorite guy was Bobby Sherman. You can't be sad listening to a Bobby Sherman album. Try it sometime. Get in the worst mood you can, then you tube, or othewise find some Bobby. You'll be happy in no time. Read reports of puppy genocide and then put on some Bobby. You'll snap right out of it. Plus Bobby was adorable. But then so were all those guys. How about a cute-off between David and Bobby. Tough call, isn't it? I know I sound like a twelve year old girl in this particular blog, but that's OK. I'm dedicating this next week to listening to nothing, but bubblegum music.
