Things to get rid of in sports

Things to get rid of in sports. It just occurred to me there are some things we would be better off without in the world of sports. Here we go.
  • The national anthem. Is it ok to sit? Is it ok to stand? How about we get rid of it entirely? What is the point of it now? "Join us in honoring America for the playing of our national anthem." No. Now its "Join us as cameras pan the sideline to see who is standing and who isn't and be sure to tune in tomorrow while pundits talk about who stood and who sat." It has become a thing so you can express your personal views. If that is what it's going to be, then let's not do it. Banks don't play the national anthem when the open in the morning. Congress doesn't play it when they begin. If we're not going to use it as intended, let's just drop it.
  • Time outs. Just play the game. Lets see how the athletes do with that. Teams call a time out to make their plans, but the other side gets to make plans on how to stop your plans at the same time. Its a wash. Its mostly to get in more commercials at the most exciting part of the game. Except it isn't all that exciting, because of, ironically, all the time outs and commercials. You can have some times to stop the clock if you want, but that's all. You don't get any protracted (not sure what the word means) times of long stoppages of play.
  • Fighting. In basketball you get kicked out of the game for fighting. And because of that, there isn't hardly any fighting. There is more physical contact and less protective equipment in basketball than any other sport. Football has all that equipment. Fighting isn't really going to do a lot of damage there anyway. Most the baseball fights are because I didn't get hit by the pitch, but I almost did, so I'm charging the mound. And don't even get me started on hockey fights. Boxing is a sport in which we probably need to allow fighting as that is the entirety of the sport, but not the others.
  • Penalties. This is mostly about football where there are way too many penalties. What's good
for one side is good for the other, so let's just say anything goes. A receiver goes out for a pass, just be forewarned. There's no such thing as pass interference anymore. Shoving, tripping, holding - its all good. If you can shove a person out of the way and still make a catch, more power to you. I think that takes some athletic grace to pull that off. Illegal motion - no such thing. Ineligible receiver downfield - If they're ineligible to catch a pass anyway, who cares if the go downfield? Let em go to the concession stand during the play - what do we care? Now that I think about it, same in basketball. If you can make a shot while getting hacked, good for you. Its not a foul - just a great play. Games will have final scores that a just a bit lower, but that's ok.
Clearly, I should be commissioner of some sport. I'm available.
