Shawshank Redemption

What? I thought we were traveling through the lovely state of Ohio. Well we are and it just happens to be the setting of the movie, The Shawshank Redemption. I stumbled onto to this while just browsing around the internet finding things to do in Ohio.

I think I've seen the movie, but if so, it was quite a while ago. I know it was about a prison. The prison was called "Shawshank" and I'm guessing someone gets redeemed. I'm a little fuzzy on the details. It turn out the setting was an old prison in Northern Ohio that is now a tourist destination. It is one of those where you buy some player with headphones and walk a tour route. It would have been pretty interesting even if it wasn't a movie set seeing what the inside of a prison looks like. I hear things are better now. I don't know. I just know it had to be awful being in prison back then. I got kind of claustrophobic standing in one of the cells for like half a minute. Ten to twenty years? I'd be dead in a month. No way I could take it. You just sit there with your roommate, Bubba, crammed together in this tiny space. The big thrill of the day would be to go outside for a bit and do I don't know what. I wouldn't even get to do that, though. I would half to do something to get put into solitary confinement so I could get away from Bubba.

I forget the name of the town the prison is in, but there were more sites in town that were also in the movie. I'll need to see the movie now. The important thing I learned - do not do anything that would put you in prison. I'm driving the speed limit, using my turn signal. I'm taking no chances.

And here is something fun. The night before we stayed in a hotel just down the road from the Smucker's factory / headquarters. How cool is that? Very. Just stumbled onto it. It was closed which was a bit of a disappointment. Imagine how fun their gift shop would be? But still cool just seeing it.
