Greenfield Village - Henry Ford decided to bring a bunch of famous buildings to this one location. So you walk the streets, and along the way you see stuff like -
- The Wright Brother's Home
- Stephen Foster's House
- One of Edison's Laboratories
- Henry Ford's House
And many more. A few were recreations - had no interest in those - but there was plenty of the real stuff to keep me plenty busy.
Ford Company - Another part of it was a tour of part of the Ford plant. We were bused to it and got to see them put together Ford-150 trucks. I should have asked what the F and the 150 means. I'm guessing the F is probably "Ford", but I'm not certain of that, and definitely no clue about the 150 part. I have no pictures of this as they wouldn't let us take any pictures inside. I don't see what is gained by that. We saw them putting them together. It was kind of impressive, but there were no big secrets being divulged that I could see.
The Ford Museum - I think I saw everything I wanted, although were were running out of time at that point. We had an hour and a half until closing. I could have spent more time, but I got all the highlights. There was some amazing stuff in you are at all into American history.
- They had a bunch of presidential cars - Reagan's, Eisenhower's, FDR's, Teddy Roosevelt's (technically a carriage).
- Most amazing was the car Kennedy rode in when assassinated. Interestingly and morbidly, they cleaned it up and used it for two or three more presidents until sending it to this museum.
- And equally morbid was the chair Lincoln was sitting in at Ford's Theater. You can still see what look to be the blood stains on the upholstery.
- The bus Rosa Parks rode on. You can actually sit in the seat she sat in (second from the front, on the right.)
- An Oscar Mayer Weinermobile. Fun! - and many more things.
