One probably shouldn't dwell on mistakes made in the past. It's a little depressing. But I was thinking about some. I once told a group of people that the executive branch was the smallest branch of government. You've got your president, vice-president, cabinet, a few aides. I figure a couple dozen tops. Congress is big though. Ever see a State of the Union address? In legislative vs executive, its not even close. And judicial - you've got the Supreme Court and all the federal courts. I'm not really sure what a federal court is as opposed to others, but I figured there was a bunch of them.
Turns out I was wrong. Badly wrong. You know who is in the executive branch? - I think it includes like the postal service, the CIA, the FBI, Secret Service, the coast guard, the army, navy, marines, air force. There are like millions of people in the executive branch. Oops.
As a kid I thought we lived close to people were really popular because cars kept turning into their driveway to visit. Year later I realized it was a cross street.
In school I heard about the revolutionary war starting with "The shot heard 'round the world". Man, that must of been loud, I thought. What if you were standing right next to it? How did the continental army not go completely deaf? I don't think I was familiar with figurative language at that time.
I knew someone that thought the land flowing with milk and honey was literally flowing with milk and honey. Sticky, but delicious. Again, probably figurative.
One of my favorite mistakes was by the singer, Cher. She admitted that she used to think Mount Rushmore was a naturally occurring formation. If true, that would be mighty impressive, wouldn't it. I mean what would be the odds?
Many others errors of my own I could list that I guess I would rather not go into. Mispronounced words, odd clothing choices, etc. I once had someone tell me, "Isn't it too bad they don't make Garanimals for men?" Ouch. I believe she was joking, but probably with a touch of seriousness.
I like to think that my rate of making mistakes has gone down as I've grown, but I'm not sure it has. You learn from your mistakes and I'm proud to say I've learned a lot.
