Rock and Roll

So, second half of the day. Moving on from the A Christmas Story house, it is on to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I had an opportunity to go their once, but opted not to. I'm not sure I see myself ever in Cleveland again, so here is my final shot. As senses go, music is more of a hearing thing and museums are usually more of a visual thing, so I was a little apprehensive. Also, I guess I was afraid it would be overpriced. Turns out, it kind of was, but I'm still glad I'm going.

It is right on the shore of Lake Erie. Not generally known as our nation's most beautiful lake, but it was still cool seeing it.

Lots of clothing. I was surprised how many of the clothes you could identify with the singer without looking at the accompanying sign. Fats Domino, Elvis, Beatles, Johnny Cash, Michael Jackson... It had a room that showed highlights of American Bandstand on a half hour loop. A lot more fun than it might sound. I think before music videos, Dick Clark was about the only way you really saw singers sing.

There was a room with a big-screen of Elvis singing. It was always packed with people watching the whole thing. His popularity seems to be holding up pretty well.

There were just little items that were cool and easy to miss if you went too fast - such as Michael J's glove, John Lennon's glasses, and of course a bazillion guitars.

Next - Cleveland Indians vs. Kansas City Royals. It was sold out. I was shocked. That usually doesn't happen for regular season games. We did get Standing Room Only tickets, which I didn't even know that existed. It is what it sounds like. You get in, but you have to stand the whole game. Cleveland won 13 to 3 with an awe inspiring 8 run 7th inning, where they hit I don't know how many doubles, but a lot.

Also cool is that their stadium is right next to the Cleveland Cavalier's stadium. Seeing from the outside is not as fun as being inside, but still OK. Best thing about the game? There were three - 1.) It was $1 hot dog night, 2.) Free Cleveland Indian baseball socks as you enter, and 3.) a fireworks show afterwards. Maybe the best fireworks show I've ever seen. Definitely worth having to stand the whole game.
