42

I watched the movie "42" about Jackie Robinson. It was really good. I don't care for most
biographical movies that come out. In most others the person has to be angry or gay or have something quirky thing to heighten the story. For most movie biographies, I would just as soon see their story on the Biography Channel. Speaking of that, what a major disappointment. I don't know if the Biography Channel even exists anymore. Anytime I've seen it, there haven't been any biographies worth seeing. They could have biographies about George Washington or Leonardo DaVinci. But instead its, "This week on Biography, its "The Life and Times of Miley Cyrus". A lot of their shows were just half-biographies because the person hadn't really lived a whole life yet. And they life they had led so far wasn't all that spectacular.

But I digress. It seems like they got things just about right in 42. I especially liked watching the guy that played the Dodger shortstop Pee Wee Reese. Forget the trials Jackie went through. How would you like to navigate through life with a nickname like that? Anyway, Pee Wee was a hero because he was one of the first players to befriend Jackie. Because Pee Wee was an established star, it gave Jackie acceptance with other players. Without him the story might have turned out a lot differently. He was always one of my favorite players because of that.

I was at a baseball game in Seattle once. About 10 rows in front of me there was a constant line of people in the aisle. I asked somebody what was up with that. They said it was people wanting autographs or just to meet Pee Wee Reese, who was there watching the game. I wanted to do the same thing, but I don't like imposing on people like that. It was enough for me that I was seated in the same section and that I could see the back of his head.
