I ate breakfast in the hotel once. They had two restaurants and this one was advertised as more casual dining. I am a casual diner, so I thought, alright. Somehow in my head I equated casual with inexpensive. A glass of orange juice was $5. Even though someone else was funding this trip, I had too much guilt to do that again. Next morning it was breakfast at Subway. Even that is pretty high scale for me. I would usually go McDonald's, but you only live once.
I was at a conference during the day, so most places downtown were closed, but it was fun to walk around anyway. I got into the gift shop at the Louisville Slugger museum for the last 10 minutes it was open. I found out on the news the next day that Cal Ripken Jr. had been at the museum that day. Very disappointing that I missed that, but it's OK I guess. Cal has the record for most consecutive games played. That is his big claim to fame. I really like Cal as a person and he was a good player, but that has to be one of the weaker records in sports. You could play in a game where you hit into a triple play and strike out four times and still extend your record. Of all the records in sports, I think it would be the one I would have the best shot at. If Lou Gehrig hadn't gotten ill, Cal wouldn't even have the record. It reminds me of when George Carlin once said, "What are the chances that Lou Gehrig would die of Lou Gehrig's disease?" One of those quirks of history I guess.
