This is a eulogy of sorts for Edna Krabappel. She is Bart's fourth grade teacher on The Simpsons. The person that did her voice, Marcia Wallace, apparently passed away this weekend. There was a little Mrs. Krabappel in every teacher I've ever known. That's what made her so great. Matt Groening mentioned once how surprised he was that so few people caught on that here name was a take off on crab apple. I'm proud of myself that I apparently am one of the few that did catch on to that, but it is balanced by that fact that I didn't catch on for about a decade. On the news story I saw they talked about Marcia doing that voice and that was all. I'm not sure what all she did, but I know she was the secretary on the Bob Newhart Show. I wasn't crazy about that character, but I love anything associated with Bob Newhart. I also remember how on Murphy Brown, Murphy had a steady stream of secretaries that never worked out. But there was an episode in which Marcia was the secretary and was great. At the end of the episode, Bob appeared to take her back to him. Great episode.
Anyway, sory to see you go Edna and Marcia, we'll miss you both.
