Top 100 Movies

Entertainment Weekly had their list of the top 100 movies, TV shows, books, and plays of all-time. How fun. But I feel obligated to make corrections where necessary. Lets start with the movies, then I'll move from there to TV and books. I probably won't be doing plays. I figure plays are stories that aren't good enough to be made into a movie.

So here is their top ten list of movies:
1. Citizen Kane - This seems to top every list whenever these kinds of lists come out. I've watched it two or three times trying to understand its appeal. I'm not seeing it. A fine movie, but #1? I don't get it, but I won't quibble with the experts.
2. The Godfather - Fine
3. Casablanca - Fine
4. Bonnie and Clyde. - Fine, but ranked a little high.
5. Psycho - Ditto
6. It's a Wonderful Life - Ditto
7. Mean Streets - What? How does a movie I haven't even heard of come in number seven? Sorry, off the list.
8. Gold Rush - Ok, but it sets the bar a little low. As I remember, basically one actor in the whole movie. Good writing? I don't know. Nobody talks.
9. Nashville - ??? Now you're just messing with me.
10. Gone with the Wind - That should get bumped up to at least the top 5.

Wizard of OZ was like 28th on their list. That should be moved way up. It has great special effects and it was made a million years ago. They made it 12 years after they figured out how to make talking movies. Seriously. The flying monkeys alone puts it in the top 10.

How about some that didn't make their top 100.

Lion King -They had other animated movies on the list. How do the leave out the Lion King?
Gandhi - I loved that movie. It won the Oscar for picture of the year. How does that not make the top 100? I'm calling out the flying monkeys.
Mary Poppins - I love that movie too. A delightful romp. And mixing real people and animation is always a crowd pleaser. Supercalifreakinripoff.
Finally, I know this one stands no chance of making their little list, but what about the funniest movie of all time - The Three Amigos.

Next time I'll critique their top 100 TV Shows. Just to give you some idea on how this might go - The Brady Bunch made their list. This could get ugly.
