ESPN Game Day

The ESPN Game Day crew comes to a different city each week of the season to do their show. They were in Lexington today and to have a good showing for it, they let fans in for free. How could I pass that up I ask you? It's only two hours away, so we drove up. I wanted to see the inside of Rupp Arena someday anyway, but game tickets are expensive and hard to get, so this was perfect. It was awesomely cool. It was interesting to see how they put the show together - how they get the crowd pumped up ; how they involved the cheerleaders and the pep band; what the do during commercials; etc.

Let me tell you, Kentucky has some rabid fans. They also had great signs. There was the regular, "Beat Missouri", etc. But they also had "Warning: Noel can still block shots from the bench", "I still hate Laettner", and my personal favorite, "In Cal We Trust". You have to be a follower to even understand their signs.

I've included some pictures that were already on the internet, although I have plenty of clicks of my own I can assure you. We were just behind the picture with the Kentucky superhero fan. One row closer and I would have been in it. He was probably my favorite fan there, but I also liked a small kid that wore black construction paper in the shape of a cylinder on top of his head. He was doing his impression of injured star Nerlens Noel. Bless his heart.

So anyway, today is UK basketball day for me. ESPN Game Day at Rupp Arena this morning. Drove home. Watched the tape of it when I got home. My Game Day blog right now, and at nine tonight, watch Kentucky vs. Missouri. Go Big Blue!!
