I saw the Reds play Sunday. I wasn't going to do that, but its the only home day game the rest of the season. Its about three hours from us. So I could drive up in the morning see the 1:00 game and get back that night. This was great because Cincinnati used to be my favorite team. Since the Pete Rose incident I took a couple decades off, but I'm back now, baby. Driving in from the south is great. You're in the mountains, then Bam! your right at the city. It looks just like the intro on the old show WKRP in Cincinnati. I don't really care where I sit at baseball games. We got outfield seats for $10. What a bargain.
Before the game they had various character playing a t-ball game. That was awesome. At one point Lucy put the ball on the tee, then would take it off when Charlie Brown swung. A classic taken from when she would do that to him with a football. There were ninja turtles, various team mascots, Smokey Bear, etc. Incidentally, I thought Smokey was kind of dogging it. Step it up, man. The others gave a good effort.
Cincy is having a great year and was playing the Houston Astros - the worst team in baseball. Their lead-off hitter was batting .162. They only had three starters hitting above .230. They are anemic. However, for this game they suddenly became the 1927 New York Yankees. They had 9 hits in the first 3 innings. Our only highlight was late when Votto walked and Bruce drove him in with a triple. Not only did that score a run, but everyone got to yell "Bruuuuuuuuuce". Awesome. If you happened to see the game you might have spotted us. Of the 33,000 people attenending, we were pretty much the only ones not wearing the color red. I'm making a note of that for next time.
