It just stopped raining here. It has rained hard for about three
hours. I don't know where this comes from. Everything gets brown this time of year. Not here. Everything is really green. I have not seen anyone watering their lawn. There's just no need to. I ran about four miles
this morning. Luckily, I did it early so I didn't get washed away in
the flood. Its a little tough running because its hot and muggy most
the time, so it keeps me from going very fast. Yeah, that's the
reason I'm not going fast. There is no room along the sides of the
roads. So I run on the road and scamper to the other side of the
road or into the ditch if there is a car coming. That's usually fine
because there isn't a lot of traffic. During the weekdays there are
the coal trucks which are enormous and seem to be in a big hurry. But
if you time it right, there isn't much traffic. The drivers here know
they get one lane to themselves, but the tend to take it out of the
middle of the road. So running on the roads are kind of like
participating in a video game, dodging all the obstacles. There are
about a mile worth of drives and trails within our “city” so that
you don't even have to go out if you don't want.
Last weekend we were in Tennessee and it rained then, too. That
was cool because it was the remnants of Hurricane Isaac. Its exciting
being part of a hurricane even if it is just the left over parts. I
used to watch the news and it seemed like the lead story would always
be the current hurricane, the after effects of the last one or
something out in the ocean thinking it might become one. (I read that
David Letterman used to be a weatherperson in Indianapolis. On the
air, he used to congratulate tropical storms that had been upgraded
to hurricane status.) We don't get a lot of hurricanes in Oregon. Hurricanes would always be on the news and I would think, "Who cares?",
ignoring the fact that there are probably tens of millions that care
quite a bit. I'm in the perfect location now. I doubt Kentucky gets
any hurricane weather that would cause much damage, but I still get
to feel like part of the action.
