Dream

I had a vivid dream last night. I was going to be in a six mile road run. I had just gotten there and I assumed I was late, because there were singing the national anthem. (Something they never do for road runs.) I remembered I forgot something in my car and had to go back, so I jogged and found I was lost. But I somehow ended up in line at a fast food place that was right by the starting line. When I got up to the front there was a really old guy that was waiting on me. He said here's your food. I said I didn't order that. It was an enormous sandwich and had french fries sticking out of the top of it. You would have to hold the french fries with two hands to eat them and the sandwich was the size of a chair. I said that I didn't even order that. He said the guy ahead of me ordered it for me. What? I gave him some money and he was trying to make change. Then he started throwing some of my money on the floor. "What are you doing?", I said. He just laughed. Then I heard the starting gun go off. Great. Then my dream ended.

I'm open to interpretations of this dream. I have a deep attachment to fast food places, so it was a disturbing dream. I was, however, wearing pants in this dream, which is a pleasant change. It disappointed me that I wouldn't be in the race. They are fun social events even though I don't have a chance of winning anymore. Once upon a time my goal was to compete in the Olympic Trials someday. Some people dream of winning the gold medal or of just going to the Olympics. I tried to be a little more realistic. I figured just be invited to compete in the trials would be quite an honor. When I was a freshman in college I ran with a guy that had been in the Olympic Trials so I thought I could do that, too. I ended up getting injured my junior year which effectively ended those thoughts. That year and this past one are pretty much tied for being the worst two years of my life. But that's ok, because I've bounced back from both of them. And while the Olympic Trials look like an impossibility, I am still hoping for a call-up from the Reds.
