I'm watching hockey. I swear, I'm actually watching hockey. I thought sometime in my life I should actually watch a game. So far its been bits and pieces on ESPN. This is game seven of the championship game. In theory this is is as exciting as it gets.
It's Boston vs St. Louis. I feel like cold weather teams should win. Its especially satisfying if a Canadian team wins. I've got to go with Boston in this. Although, the Boston Red Sox won the World Series and I think New England won the Super Bowl, so Boston is getting just a little greedy.
We've already had two "icing" calls. I'm not sure what that is. It seems like if you hit it a long ways they call icing. That can't be it. I just Googled "icing". It seems like that is basically it. There is a whole lot of hitting that seems borderline assaults. That seems to be fine. But don't hit the puck too far.
I already see one of the problems with hockey. Too much action. It's just frantic action non-stop. Hold everything. We just had a score. St. Louis ahead 1-0. I'm pretty sure its the first time I'm seen a hockey goal aside from a highlight reel on ESPN.
Back to my original point. There's no strategy. It's just fast skating intermixed with assaults. Basketball has the same issue. You have to shoot within 24 sections. I think football has the right mix. There are plays, but then between plays you can plan a strategy. At the other end of the spectrum is baseball. In a three hour game you probably have about five minutes of real activity. Is something really a sport if you can play a whole game and not get out of breath.
Hey, another Boston score. A commanding 2-0 lead. I had my head down, so I didn't see it. Arrrrrgh. Its the end of the period. That was 20 minutes. So I'm going to guess there are 3 periods. That would make for an even hour.
I have ice skated once before. I remember almost twisting my ankle and doing unintentional splits. I'm not sure I would be a good hockey player.
So far I only see that one person has gone to the penalty box. In my view, the refs have missed a few acts of violence.
I just missed another score.
We're now in the "Final 5 brought to you by Rocket Mortgage". They never miss a clever advertising opportunity. "And we're in sudden death, brought to you by Bob's Mortuary Service".
Now it 4-0. I saw that one. And now its 4-1. Way to go Boston. Too little, too late, but way to go.
And that's your final score. St. Louis seems pretty happy about it. They have the nicer uniforms, so it's well deserved. I just noticed its pretty much a 100% Caucasian sport. Everyone seems to have beards, too. Its like a lumberjack convention.
So hats off to you St. Louis. My first and probably last hockey game.
