There seems to be kind of a contest now on who said the worst thing - Roseanne Barr or Samantha Bee. Here is my thought - let's call it a tie. Both of you equally need to work on growing up. Name calling might have been comedy gold in 7th grade, but you should be past that now.
In some ways I guess I lean toward Samantha Bee being the more despicable. I assume she and her writers got together and rehearsed the line and had plenty of time to consider how tasteful it would be. She also looses points because she comes out of it, so far, relatively unscathed. She had to, after seeing the negative reaction, decided she would offer a heartfelt apology and that's that. Roseanne, on the other hand, lost her show within hours.
Another problem I have is that it it seems like Roseanne got hit harder because her comments had to do with race. I don't really care about that. Both "comediennes" were rude and insensitive to someone else. After something like this CNN or someone will see the need to have a "conversation about race". Why?
Some people make fun of other people's race. Others make fun of people to embarrass their political views. Some because of how they look. Who cares? Why don't we all just quit making fun of people. Junior high is over. Time to grow up. And that goes for all the people that laugh when people make those kinds of remarks.
And adding on to this misbehavior is when people are hypocritical on top of it. I think Donald Trump is mean to people and is disrespectful to people. Therefore I need to ridicule him and be disrespectful to him. Seems to me that was what Samantha Bee was going for. That's wrong. As for Roseanne, I really have no idea what was going on in her head.
What have we learned from these episodes? I would say, 1.) Don't hate people. 2.) If you do hate people, keep it to yourself.
