Let's start with some that aren't so hot -
- The one giving 18 year olds the right to vote. As soon as you get done doing whatever you're doing with your phones, you can have the vote back.
- The 14th amendment - Everyone born here is a citizen. It came right after the Civil War and was, I'm assuming, written so as to include the slaves that were born here, but were not considered citizens. Good call. But it really shouldn't now be allowed for Mr. and Mrs. Schlopnik to visit here on vacation and happen to have a baby during their vacation, who then becomes a citizen. I worked hard to just happen to be born here. Why do visitors get that? Especially those that do it sneakily to get benefits for their child.
- The 10th amendment - I don't think anyone understands it. I sure don't. That would be OK except it part of the Bill of Rights. Others like the "Freedom of Speech" amendments probably look down on it.
- 1st amendment - Sorry, but it gets misused to much. Freedom of Speech means dumb people get to say whatever they want. This blog - case in point. Freedom of the Press allows for a lot of stuff that is said to be fair and balanced, but is neither. Right to the redress of grievances. I'm tired of all the protests. Social protests is just a fancy name for whining. Is something not right? Go fix it. Don't just walk around with signs and bullhorns.
Favorites -
- The one ending slavery. The 13th, I think. Seems kind of obvious to do something like this since half a million people just died over the issue.
- There was one that cleared up the vice president issue. They didn't really think that through when the first wrote the Constitution. The first VP to move up to the top spot was John Tyler. Did he really become President or "Acting President" as some called him. Or even worse "His Accidency". Cruel, although kind of funny. Tyler did a great job by asserting that he was, in fact, the President. Turns out he wasn't a very good President, but that's beside the point.
- Prohibition. Let's bring that back. We really would be better off as a whole. People could still get their alcohol in speakeasies. From what I've seen in old movies, they seemed really cool.
New Ones
- Can't we get rid of the Electoral College? The only college that is really dumb. Zing! But seriously, it leads to the opposite of the democratic process. Candidates just visit states that are close, and others get nothing. And its much easier for vote tampering to take place in a small state instead of the country as a whole.
- Term limits - When the congressmen decided to limit presidents to two terms because longer would be undemocratic, why didn't they make that apply to them?
OK, there you have it. My blog - Making America Great Again.
