I was in So Cal and saw some stuff. Tops on the list was the Richard Nixon Library and birthplace. Disneyland, the happiest place on earth? Pshaw, I say.
What is there to do? Here we go - First of all, most of the presidential libraries have a replica of the Oval Office. They differ by the fact that each president gets to furnish it how they want. So the couches are a maybe different color, so not that much difference. (Inexplicably, Pat picked out a hideous mustard yellow.) But at this Oval Office they let you sit behind the desk, pretend to answer the phone, etc. They others I've been at you get to walk up to a roped off area and peer in. Not cool man.
They've updated the displays since I've been there so they were cool. Separate rooms on Vietnam, Watergate, accomplishments, VP years, etc.
They have a full replica of the East Room in the White House. They actually were preparing for a wedding later that day. They would be married outside the Oval Office and a reception in the East Room. Probably just like Tricia.
They have where Dick and Pat are buried. Its probably more correctly called the Richard Nixon Library and birthplace and deathplace, but that just doesn't sound right.
They have the house he grew up in. I think it was nearby and they actually had to move it to this location. Its not a very big house. The Nixons weren't rich like Trumps or Kennedys more most the other presidents.
It has the helicopter he flew off in after he resigned. You get to go inside and, of course, pose on the steps doing the Nixon V for Victory pose. It has to be done. Okay, I was the only one I saw do it, but I was not going to let that stop me.
Don't even get me started on the gift shop.
So I love presidential museums. I'm seeing more later this summer. From what I've seen, Nixon, Reagan, Truman are the three best.
