E.J.

Elton John, or as he lets me call him, E.J. and I got together this weekend. I had good seats. It was behind the stage and about halfway up. Turned out great. Its close to the same thing I had when I saw Sir Paul. Its the way to go I think. Especially with Elton who sits at the piano the whole time. Aside from his occasional getting up to drink from his nearby glass of water, you know where he is going to be for 2:28 of those two and a half hours.

I got a couple of good pictures. A little blurry, but not terrible. I could get down a little lower to take them. There was some Nazi there that chased you away, but you can get a couple clicks in before he got to you.

He had visual stuff happening on a background screen. I missed all of that, but that's fine. I forgot what I paid until I looked at my ticket. Just over $50. Not bad at all.

By now I pretty much know what songs he is going to do. There were four I hadn't heard in concert before, though. Two were off his new album. I have that, of course, but I hadn't seen him since it came out. Are the still called albums? I know not to call them LP's, cassettes, or 8-tracks. Actually I was never hip enough for 8-tracks, so I don't even know how they operate. Incidentally, "Not hip enough for 8-tracks" might be a good album title. I try to say "recordings" now. I don't think that word is going to go out of style. What do you say now? mp3's? Is that even a thing anymore? I don't know. I have Spotify and my cd's. I probably need to by new and backup cd players for when they stop making them. I read that just recently they manufactured the very last VHS player. I'm sure CD's demise will come. Although, now LP's are back to being hip again. I should not have gotten rid of my turntable. Aaaargh! For that matter, is "hip" still a word. Its ironic that using the word hip now is a sign that you're not hip.

I digressed. So two other songs I hadn't heard him do. "Have Mercy on the Criminal" from the "Don't Shoot Me, I'm Only the Piano Player" album. Great album, terrible song. One of my least favorite. But he balanced that by including one of his best songs ever - "Your Sister Can't Twist, but She Can Rock and Roll".

So last songs were "Saturday Night's All Right for Fighting", then encore of "Candle in the Wind" and "Crocodile Rock". So great fun. I always think this is my last one. Maybe, but I don't think so. Bring it on, number 10.
