Universal Studios

I was at Universal Studios in L.A. today. It wasn't my first choice, but I got out-voted on the issue. Actually, I don't even remember a vote taking place. I had been to the one in Orlando. I assumed this one would be pretty much the same. I've never been to Disney World, but I've heard that it and Disney Land are pretty much clones of each other.

So, here we go. Orlando and LA definitely are similar, but different enough that this was interesting. I don't care for the rockem sockem roller coasters that the rest of the world seems to be crazy about. I was a little trooper and went on three, but that is just about my limit. I brought a book with me, and part of the time I just found a place to sit and I read my book. OK, I can tell you're rolling your eyes at that. I don't care. My book did not make me nauseous or force me to stand in a long line. I had a lot more fun my way.

We went on the Universal Tour. You ride a tram and see historic and current film sets. That was fun and not something they have in Orlando. It had a 45 minute wait which was by far the longest of the day.

Another thing different is it is the week before Christmas and the Whos and the Grinch were a big deal. They guy who played the Grinch was great. He would be kind of mean and hilarious at the same time.

They had Harry Potter and Simpsons lands just like in Orlando, but that's OK, because they are both really fun. Its fun to just walk around their Hogwarts and environs area. Also, I got to have lunch at Moe's. How cool is that?

I ended up doing quite a few things - the tour, two Harry Potter rides, two shows, Simpson's ride, lunch at Moe's, Christmas tree lighting, Walking Dead walk-through (not a roller coaster, but really scary, with people hiding in the dark and then jumping out at you), Jurassic Park ride (Float in a boat. Very relaxing for the first half and then all hell breaks loose in the second). I think that was it. A pretty full day.

I don't usually buy souvenirs. There was an LA Dodger store where I got a $4 pen. I've never seen so much blue in a single store. I think I don't like to buy souvenirs because I see others just go crazy with the stuff. They had $50 Harry Potter wands that are basically sticks. There was a line for them out the door. Come on, people. I liked the movies too, but seriously.
