Vasquez Rocks

Vasquez Rocks is a park in Southern California. It is pretty bleak looking, but that is what makes it cool. Its not what you might think of when you hear the word "park". If they had parks on the Moon, this might be a good fit there. There have been quite a few movies and TV shows filmed at Vasquez Rocks. In fact, while were were there they were photographing a model for an ad for a new line of swim suits.

There is one prominent rock formation that they used as the model for Pride Rock in The Lion King. I think you can climb to the top of it, although it seemed a little precarious and my fear of heights, and specifically, my fear of falling from heights, made me decide not to.

I thought it would be cool to climb up there with a cat or something and hold it over my head. He would be like Simba and all the animals would come running from miles around. That would be awesome. My fear of heights, along with the difficulty of the climb itself, and trying to negotiate that while holding onto a cat made me decide not to do it. Plus, I didn't have a cat. But, it was a good idea.

The Pacific Crest Trail comes through the park. I walked maybe a quarter of a mile of it. I figure I've done about 0.01% of the PCT in my life so far. At some point I'll tackle the rest. (As long as it doesn't have any high places.)
