I Love Kirsty MacColl

I've just discovered Kirsty MacColl on Spotify. I had heard of her. I knew she wrote They Don't Know - A big hit for Tracey Ullman and one of the best songs of all-time. It turns out she was a pretty big, but not huge, singer in England. So, I've listened to her albums on Spotify and she is really good. She is a fine singer, but an even better song writer. Some of her songs are serious and some are kind of funny. So I thought she was awesome. Then I found out that she had passed away in 2000. I was so sad, because to me, it was like she had just died - even though she actually died fifteen years ago.

She was a singer for a while, then took a break to raise her young children, and then came back to singing. At 41 she was killed in a boating accident. She and her kids were swimming at the beach and a boat came where it shouldn't have been. She got her children out of the way, but in the process she was struck by the boat and killed. How sad. But its kind of a modern day parable, giving her life to save her children. Anyway, for me, she lives on through Spotify.

In what might seem quite unrelated, I hurt my leg. I'm not even sure how it happened. It happened in the middle of the night. I woke up and it was hurting. I think it was because I was getting a big old root out of the ground the night before. Long story, but it was a lot of work. I don't remember hurting my leg at the time, but that is the only thing that makes sense. Its a delayed injury. I think its better now, but it still hurts a bit to walk. I thought it would help to have a cane. Then I thought I should just use that big root I dug out as my cane. It would be about the right size and again a nice modern day parable. The stick would have been the cause of the injury and then turning its life around and assisting in the cure. The Prodigal Stick? I don't know.
