Year End Awards

I can't believe I haven't done this before. My own personal selections for the tops of 2014. I've seen some other lists that have come out lately. They have gotten things wrong for the most part, so I will give the correct selections. You're welcome. These are for the most part off the top of my head, but are nonetheless correct. I'll just do sports this time and save others for next time.

Sports Team of the Year - San Antonio Spurs. They had a bunch of, by NBA standards, old players. But they are a bunch of selfless, non-flashy players. And they came back from just barely losing the championship the year before. People figured that was their last chance. Turns out it wasn't.

Baseball Player of the Year - Clayton Kershaw. He didn't pitch well in the playoffs, so that tarnishes things a bit, but his regular season was amazing. He had 21 wins and 3 losses. His winning percentage is the 14th best ever. That's going back to 1869. If you figure in the poor playoff he still ends up leading baseball in ERA.

Basketball Player of the Year - LeBron James. That was easy.

Football Player of the Year - Tony Romo. Romo has gotten criticized a lot in the past. I know Dallas Cowboy fans that don't like Tony Romo. He's having a great year. He's the highest rated quarterback this season. He used to be married to Jessica Simpson. Yep. MVP.

Personal Picks -
Highlight - Seattle winning the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, at the time I was on the East Coast at a Super Bowl party with people that were more into the snacks than the game, so it dampened my celebration a bit, but still cool.

Highlight - Kentucky basketball - Got to see a game in person. And they made it all the way to the national championship game. Again, dampened a bit since they lost, but still a fun season.

Lowlights - Pete Rose again not being voted into the baseball hall of fame. No comment at this time. I undoubtedly will have recurring rants on this topic in future blogs.

Most Disgusted With - Jameis Winston. He's been a jerk on multiple occasions. If his team ends up beating the Ducks, he'll be making the all-time disgusted with list.

??? - I can't even think of his name, but the defensive back for my otherwise beloved Seahawks. His pomposity has landed him a bunch of commercial time. I avert my eyes every time he appears on TV. I also no longer eat Campbell Soup. I know - harsh punishments, but he has it coming.

Favorite Guys - Marcus Mariota and Russell Wilson. Most people don't know this, but they are actually the same person.

Play of the Year - This catch violated several laws of physics.

Richard Sherman. The defensive back's name is Richard Sherman. I wish I could tell you that comes from my vast knowledge of football, but as you know, I hate everything about sports. Googled it. Works wonders.
