Plagiarism

If I every get two dogs (I won't) I'm going to name them Charles Barkley and Kareem Abdul Jabark. I think I thought of that a couple days ago. But then I thought it was so witty I probably heard it some place and have stolen it. I really don't know. I would like to think I thought that up, but it such at a high level of humor, that I just have my doubts.

It reminds me of a story Paul McCartney tells. He says he woke up one morning with what was the tune of Yesterday stuck in his head. He played it for a bunch of people to see if they recognized it, but no one did. He thought because it sounded so good, and it came to him while he was sleeping that it might have just been a melody he had heard at some other time. I'm not saying my dog jokes are on the same level as Yesterday. But I'm not saying their not either.

And then that reminds me of his buddy George Harrison. He wrote My Sweet Lord and then got sued because it sounds like the song, He's So Fine. The themes of the songs really couldn't be more different, but listen to them sometime. They are quite similar. My favorite song of his is called This Song which he wrote about that experience. If you don't know what he's doing, the lyrics seem kind of stupid, but they're actually kind of fun because he's letting off steam from the lawsuit. One reason I like the lyrics is that I figured out what they meant all on my own. Some of my worst experiences in school was trying to interpret poetry. But I nailed this one.

This song has nothing tricky about it
This song ain't black or white and as far as I know
Don't infringe on anyone's copyright, so . . .

This song we'll let be
This song is in E
This song is for you and . . .

This tune has nothing Bright about it
This tune ain't bad or good and come ever what may
My expert tells me it's okay

As this song came to me
Quite unknowingly
This song could be you could be . . .
