I See Dead People

Kind of a final lap through Ohio on my I See Dead People Tour. We met this couple one time that was visiting all the Presidential graves. While some might not think so, I thought, "Cool". I didn't make that a goal at the time, but now that I'm in the ballpark, I think I might go for it. I'm up to 24 out of the 39 Presidents that are currently eligible. I got a bunch on this lap (plus a little extra) of Ohio. For the most part, they're not your Mt. Rushmore types - McKinley, Fillmore, Garfield, Hayes, Harding. As a school play done on the Simpsons sang, "These are the mediocre Presidents, you won't find our pictures on dollars or on cents." I looked on a site that had historian's rankings of the Presidents. They were 25, 28, 29, 38, and 43. Not terrible, it could have been worse. OK, Harding's couldn't have been worse, but the others came out alright. McKinley and Garfield had huge Lincolnesque monuments. It seemed a little much, although both were assassinated, so maybe that had a little something to do with it. Fillmore and Hayes were just about right - nice, but not pompously huge. Harding's was in between, but is unique and very well done (pictured above). He one time asked to just be buried under a tree and the open sky. They town technically did that, but then added a big ole monument to enclose it. They ought to factor into his nice burial site into his rankings score. It could help him move ahead of Buchanan into 42nd place.

Fun fact - In the same cemetery as Garfield and maybe a hundred yards away is the grave of John D. Rockefeller.

There were other graves that were on the way, but it would have taken some searching and I really didn't have that kind of time. There were some good ones - Cy Young, Lucille Ball, B.F. Goodrich, and a few lesser ones as well.
