Rosemary Clooney

The last couple days have been a little rough for me. I bought a box of fudge bars. I was really looking forward to it. In the middle of the night I thought, "I wonder if they ended up in the freezer."  They didn't. Oh, the disappointment. I put it in the freezer the next day. I now have basically one giant fudge bar with a bunch of sticks coming out of it.

Today I was at a meeting. Someone couldn't see because one of those carousels that hold books was blocking her view. So I was going to move it. It turns out it comes in pieces. It fell apart, the platefuls of nuts I was holding fell to the floor. The person I was trying to help couldn't stop laughing. Not good.

Some lowlights this week, but I went on a trip this past weekend and that was fun. It was 8 or 9 hours of driving, round-trip. Not too bad. In the East you can drive not all that far and see a lot.  At least you can if you do your homework and plan it out ahead of time, which I do. In the West, you can easily drive 8 or 9 hours and and see virtually nothing of interest. I'm just saying...

So here we go. Cane Ridge Meeting House was an important place in the early 1800's. It was a big deal in the the church Restoration movement in the U.S. The church building still stands. Apparently twenty to thirty thousand came to the area for revival meetings. I asked the guy there how that worked without microphones. He said they would have several speakers out among the crowds at any one time. Right now its mostly horse farms, so you have to really use your imagination to get a sense of what it must of been like.

From there it was about an hour to Augusta, Ky. It is the home of Rosemary Clooney. That was fun. She was in White Christmas. They had several costumes from the movie. They also had a lot of the things worn by her nephew, who also grew up there - George Clooney (dreamy!).  The guide knew the family very well, so she new her stuff. She did talk faster than anyone I've heard and all without taking a breath. A bit exhausting after a while.
