Presidential Graves

Several years ago I met someone that said he had a goal of visiting every President's grave. How cool is that? Very. A little morbid, maybe, but cool. I'm up to 17 now. In the past week I saw Chester A. Arthur and Martin Van Buren. They're not two of our best and brightest, but they still count. They were about 15 miles away from each other. Martin's is maybe a little more well know because he is buried where he was born and lived most of his life - Kinderhook, N.Y. They've made kind of a big deal of it.

Poor Chester. There was a little sign in front of the cemetery and that was it. He had a nice spot though. Pretty, but not to fancy. (I'm looking at you, Abe.)  Then I just kind of stumbled onto another one - George Thomas who was an important general in the Civil War. He was known as "The Rock of Chicamauga". There is a great nickname. I'm reading a book about Grant (yet to go on my list) that talked about George's funeral. Grant attended along with most of the other important Union generals and 10,000 people.

Not that I spent my whole week in cemeteries, but I've got one more. At the same spot, they guy that they modeled Uncle Sam after was buried. Not as important, but for most people maybe as famous as the other ones I saw.

I don't spend enough time doing this that it doesn't even qualify as a hobby and I'll admit it does seems a little creepy. However, I don't think its as creepy as people that watch all those zombie TV shows. So I'm good with it.
