I went to Comicon a couple weeks ago. I've never had a burning desire to go to one. I don't know what the word Comicon even means or if I'm spelling it right. I do know its a geekfest of sci-fi fanatics. It was in Lexington which is only a couple hours away and tickets were not as bad as I thought they might be. I think they were like $17 each. I went on line and saw that they had a million stars that were going to be there. I only had heard of about 10 of those million, but still, it seemed cool. Those ones I did know were great. The really big stars were signing autographs for money, but you could get pictures. Here is a partial listing:
William Shatner.- That was fun. Later in the day his line was a light year long, but early on you could sneak to the side and get some pictures. Later he did a question/answer session in a huge room. He's got to be getting pretty old by now, but he looked good, was really funny, and personable. Have some of that, Picard.
George Takei, aka Sulu - I could only see him from a distance, but he seemed personable and fun. I guess if I was signing pieces of paper for $80 a pop, I'd be in a good mood, too.
Lt. Uhura - I was never a big fan. You seemed to be basically the Enterprise secretary, so don't be getting a big head.
Lou Ferigno, aka The Incredible Hulk - That guy is huge. Seriously. His arms especially, but really all of him - just enormous.
Seemingly 8,000 people that had played one of the Power Rangers at one time or another. There apparently have been a lot of them.
The TV show Batmobile - When I was growing up, it was the car I wanted to own as an adult. I've pretty much grown out of that. It would seem a bit pretentious.
Jim Cummings - The guy who does the voice of Tigger and Winnie the Pooh. A regret now is not asking him to talk to me in his Pooh or Tigger voice. I'm sure he's had that request a million times before, but what's the worst he would do - bounce me?
A major highlight was seeing the people that came in their costumes. There were a lot of them. There were ghostbusters, zombies, assorted star trek personnel, etc. I don't want to be judgmental, but some seemed maybe just a tad too into this whole sci-fi thing. I guess whatever floats your boat or sails your star fleet.
