I drove past a spot in Tennessee that supposedly was the place where Mountain Dew was born. Obviously I had to check that out. It was true. Wikipedia even backs them up. At this location was where some people came up with the drink. They used it to mix with their moonshine to dilute it somewhat. That was the origin of it being associated with alcohol. I can still remember bottles of it with some moonshiner pictured on it. The Mountain Dew itself isn't alcoholic and of course now is just a soft drink.
That location has been made into a tourist site. It has a bunch of souvenirs. I thought that would be cool to buy a Mountain Dew shirt from there. Cheap me just bought a bottle of Mountain Dew itself. I figured I could keep the bottle as a souvenir. I still have the bottle and I'm just as happy as if I had bought one of their overpriced $20 t-shirts.
So that building has souvenirs, a bridge to forever, and a zip-line. No way am I doing a zip-line. It's expensive and deadly. But the bridge was free, so I went for it. It went out over a river and you can walk out there and it has some plexiglass cut-outs where you can look straight down. So, I'm not brave enough for zip-lining, but walking out on that bridge I think took some courage. On my way out I felt like Don Knotts, but after I got back I'm like John Wayne. Maybe I could do zip-lining. No. I can't.
As I recall it was call "Bridge to Forever". It went part way over the river and then stopped. So it went far short of "forever" and since it didn't even cross, I don't think the word "bridge" is appropriate. However, I have no problem with the word "to" in their title.
I understand that Pepsi Cola was started in North Carolina. I don't really want to go that far. However, I've been in Pikeville, Kentucky which claims to be, per capita, the largest Pepsi drinking town in the United States. Pikeville is a nice little town. They did hang one of the Hatfield and McCoy participants there. That just adds to its quirky charm.
