It's a small thing, but I passed a big
truck on the freeway that had Darius Rucker's logo on it and was
obviously his stuff being hauled to his next concert. Main thing is I
made some cool purchases in Tennessee this weekend. I found a antique
shop in Jonesboro (oldest city in Tennessee) that had some political
buttons. What I bought were mostly loser buttons – Dan Quayle,
Thomas Dewey, Alf Landon, Wendell Wilkie, and Adlai Stevenson.
“Loser” in the sense they lost in trying to be President. As my
hero, Fran Tarkenton, once said, its better to lose earlier in the
playoffs, than to make it all the way to the Super Bowl and lose
there. To get to the Super Bowl you have to win a series of crucial
games. If you lose before that or don't even make the playoffs,
people will forgive you for that. However, you're branded as a loser or
choker if you get to the big one and don't win. If you are in the
running to be President I would think that speaks pretty highly of
you, but all those guys are thought of as losers. How do you think Alf Landon
feels that he is a far distant second in name recognition to ALF the
furry puppet. Speaking of names, maybe names like Alf, Adlai, and
Wendell didn't help their vote totals. If he had been Butch Landon,
maybe he would have been President.
Far better than that – Are you
sitting down? I bought a coonskin cap. Oh baby! I think you kind of
have to pick right times and places to wear a thing like that, but
I'll be on the lookout. It was at the Jonesboro visitor center and
was $7.95. I had seen one earlier in the day for $13 and it didn't
fit. Even with that, I was tempted to buy it. Thank goodness I
waited. I wore it when I went to Davy's birthplace later in the day.
Oh, yes I did. Other times, I kept it in the trunk. It did startle me
a couple times when I opened the trunk and saw it, momentarily
forgetting I had it there. It looked like some kind of varmit was
hiding in my trunk ready to pounce on my face. That gets your
attention.
(Me pictured below in my new cap.)
