Harry Truman

I was looking through past pictures and I came across ones I took when I was at the Harry Truman Presidential Museum. It is nice. Maybe the nicest of all the ones I've been to. (Sorry, Dick.) When you first go in, it has his "The Buck Stops Here" sign. He and Bess are buried in the courtyard. After the museum was built, he had an office where he would come and work each day. They have that just as it was. They put in a big window so you can see into it. There is a room that is what the oval office looked like when he was president. They showed a video of him being interviewed by Jack Benny that was hilarious. I can't really do justice in describing it. As presidential museum's go, it is just really good.

Not far away is Eisenhower's museum. Knott's Berry Farm used to compare itself with Disneyland by saying, "Minutes away and World's Apart". They might also mention that its much lower quality and popularity. That's how I feel after seeing Ike's and Harry's museums. You were a great guy, Dwight, but your museum needs work. Part of the problem might be it being in Abeline. I would have thought Topeka and Abeline to be similar towns. Topeka is upscale with a lot of modern buildings in it. Ableline really looks like its still in the wild west. Lots of dust, cowboys, and pick ups. They didn't even have a Burger King that I could see. Come on. Step it up, Topeka.

In one day I drove through Kansas and Nebraska. Miles and miles of nothing. Quite a thrill. In the years before the Civil War there was the Kansas-Nebraska Act which led to a lot of fighting. I'm guessing North and South were fighting over who would have to take them.
