The Weather

It rains a lot here. I'm not complaining, but I'm not used to that. This morning it was raining when I woke up and kept raining I think most of the morning. It didn't rain real hard. Other times it is hard. Blue skies through most the day, then it starts clouding up for about an hour, then about 20 minutes of heavy rain. Then it clears off. The weather service apparently puts out alerts for serious weather. I'm pretty sure I've never been part of one before, but this last month I've been in on three of them. I got text messages on my phone and there were alerts on TV. (I'm not sure how the weather service has my phone number or what my location is. What else do they know?) They had hide-under-the-bed type thunder and pounding rain. Somebody build an ark. I actually saw animals starting to pair up. OK, I didn't, but it was pretty intense.
In Indiana, a couple weeks ago, there was a huge thunderstorm and rain. I turned on the Weather Channel in our hotel room and they were showing pictures on the national map and they made a big deal of the storm going on right where we were at. Looking out the window I counted flashes of lightning. I did it several times and each time I got around 40 per minute. Amazing. They were kind of hard to see from being curled up under my bed, but that is a pretty accurate count.
I had heard how muggy it might be here. It is muggier than I'm used to, but its not a big deal. I make sure I only go into building that have air conditioning and then its not even noticeable.
