America (The group, not the country)
I heard "Sandman" by America in the car while I was driving. I remember someone in music authority, like Dick Clark or Casey Kasem once did an interview with the group. They admitted the lyrics to their songs didn't make any sense. They just tried to get things to rhyme. Yeah, you might want to read that last sentence again. It's pretty hard to believe. However, it's all is starting to make sense now. I always thought they had stupid lyrics to their songs, but I figured I just wasn't getting the deeper meaning somehow. It turns out their is no deeper meaning and they really are stupid. I went on the internet to find some of their song lyric samples. Let's check out their song, "Lonely People".
This is for all the lonely people,
Thinking that life has passed them by,
Don't give up until you drink form the silver cup,
And ride that highway in the sky.
The "silver cup" thing is meaningless, and the point of the "highway in the sky" is that it rhymes with "life has passed them by".
How about "Sister Golden Hair"?
Will you meet me in the middle, will you meet me in the air,
Will you love me just a little, just enough to show you care,
Well I tried to fake it, I don't mind saying, I just can't make it.
The middle of what? In the air? Come on. This is followed by several measures of Doo wops which have about as much meaning as the chorus.
Finally, one of the worst songs in the history of music, "A Horse with No Name". The whole song is ridiculous, but the topper is line to make every English teacher cringe - "Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain".
Even though they were just making stuff up that rhymes, apparently they couldn't even manage to do that anymore and resorted to, and I quote - "La,la,la,la,la,la,la,la,la,la,la,la,la,la,la,la,la,la,la,la,la,la,la" (repeat several times).
You'll want to give them another listen.
