Atlanta Braves

I can't believe I have to write about this topic. Somehow my Atlanta Braves managed to lose their lock on a playoff position. Roughly speaking, they lost their last five games in a row, including a 13 inning final game. They lost about 80% of their games in September, while St. Louis won about 80% of theirs. A bunch of St. Louis' as I recall were one-run, come from behind victories. I don't think I'm exaggerating on any of this. I could have looked up the actual numbers, but it would have just made me sad, so I didn't.

I thought God might smile on Atlanta becasue of having Dan Uggla on the team. He must have had a rough childhood with all the other kids calling him Dan Ugly. You know that had to happen. But, it turns out the team we had to beat in the final series, Philadelphia, has a player named Utley. That's pretty much a draw in the unfortunate name department. So God probably figured he had to be neutral.

By the way, thank you Houston for pretty much rolling over and playing dead in your series with St. Louis. Nice effort.

Anyway, I am done with following sport teams. I know I've made that claim before, but this time I'm serious. Aside from my beloved Antlers, I'm not rooting for anyone ever again. Even if Atlanta had made it to the playoffs, they would have lost in one of the playoff rounds. There are like 30 teams in baseball and every team but one ends up disappointed. Oregon's football team was second of all of the colleges in the country. Yet all of the Duck fans ended the season sad. Why does everyone keep watching sports? Sports are good if you're a participant. But, what is the point of watching someone else participate? Here is a good analogy. Reading is good for you. Watching someone else read isn't really that helpful. I've even caught myself watching TV golf before. That would be like watching someone who is thinking about reading. And for anyone that tunes in to ESPN to watch people playing poker, I don't even know what to say. So, lets all band together and quit following sports teams. We'll all be a lot happier for it.
