I was in Spokane for the first time ever. I walked through Gonzaga University where they have a museum there dedicated to their most famous alumnus and my hero - Bing Crosby. In my book, if you make a list of the top performers of the last century, Bing is number one. OK, I researched this for you - 396 hit records (Elvis had 149). White Christmas is the second best selling song ever (second to my boy, Elton). Number one box office star for five years and was in the top 10, fifteen times. His radio show had 50 million listeners a week. I know some of you are biased toward more recent entertainers because they are easiest to remember. You're probably thinking, "Entertainer of the Century - what about Paris Hilton or the Jonas Brothers?" If that is your thinking, I don't even know you. I got my picture taken with the Bing Crosby statue they have there. How cool is that? He's in his relaxed, cool pose, smoking a pipe. I'm going to start smoking a pipe so I can be cool, too. Plus, my doctor said I wasn't getting enough tar. (Rimshot)
Also, I ran a marathon. That story will need to be a later blog entry of its own.
I went to Atlanta (See previous blog.)
Next, this may not sound like much to you, but it was huge for me. A part on my lawn mower broke. I found the part I needed, ordered it on-line (OK, I needed help with that part) and then installed it myself. Believe me, that is a huge accomplishment. (After I took the ASVAB test in high school, I was specifically advised not to do anything mechanical. Seriously.) The lawn mower part only cost about $10, but for a while I considered just buying a new lawn mower.
I probably have other stuff I can't think of now. I'll save that for a later blog.
