Most Popular Christmas Songs

Last week I had the worst songs of all-time. Now let's look at the favorites. There are lots of websites that say they've got the list. I found one that backed it up with numbers. Let's get started

1. Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree - Brenda Lee. I've heard had country western hits and was a childhood star. This is the only song I've heard of hers though.

2. Jingle Bell Rock - Bobby Helms. I know nothing of Bobby except this song. Seems like Jingle Bells should be higher than this. I think it probably gets sung more often, but the rock song is gets more airplay.

3. Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer - Burl Ives. He was also the snowman narrator on the TV special.

4. Holly Jolly Christmas - Done by Michael Buble and, again, Burl Ives

5. Its the Most Wonderful Time of the Year - Andy Williams. He had a variety show. It came out when everyone seemed to have a variety show. His was the best, I think.

6. All I Want for Christmas is You - Mariah Carey. I think we've heard this song enough.

7. Feliz Navidad - Jose Feliciano. Enough of this one, too. I liked it the first million times.

8.  It's Beginning to look a Lot Like Christmas - Bing Crosby. Not White Christmas? I demand a recount.

9. Last Christmas - Wham! Please stop with this song.

10. Jingle Bells - Frank Sinatra

Its interesting how many Christmas songs are done by people you only hear at Christmas time. Also Perry Como, Johnny Mathis, etc. Some of these on the list (Bing, Frank) were big stars, but not any more. And others I know nothing of except their Christmas recordings. They get trotted out in December then put away for the next eleven months. By the way, Elton John's Step into Christmas, best Christmas song ever. Somehow doesn't make the list.
