England has a new prime minister today. Congratuations, Keir Starmer. I wish I knew more about how England's sytstem works. I know its different from the United States'. Seems like they can switch out pm's whenenver they want. I liked the last guy - Sunak. He was only there for a year, 255 days, according to Wikipedia (by the way, hats off to Wikipedia who already have the new guy listed, having been put in just hours ago.) Many of them last a year or two, a few, much longer. Also, our presidents do a lot of cermeonial things which in England get handled by the royalty. That seems like a good idea. Their pm just gets to work running the government without being distracted by stuff like laying wreaths, going to funerals, and kissing babies. Another difference, and I'm a little fuzzy on this, is that it is based on what party has the most seats after an election. Apparently the winning the party then decides who they want as prime minister. Defferent from the U.S., but again, maybe better.
I was in England a few years ago and saw the residence of the prime minister - Number 10 Downing Street. I saw the door, anyway. Now, I think they have the street all blocked off. That's a shame.
Writing this makes me realize I need to learn more about England. Speaking of "England", how about the difference between England, Brtitain, Great Britain, the United Kingdom? How do Scotland, Ireland, Northern Ireland, England, Wales all fit in? I've got my work cut out for me.
