Time Person of the Year

It's that time of year for me to be disappointed in the selection of Time Magazine's Person of the Year Award. Yes, I can easily deal with the change from the Time Man of the Year title, but its when they start selecting inanimate objects or whatever that I really have a problem with. Let's go through the list. Just for fun I'll give a ranking on how deserving they are - scale of 1 to 5.

1927 - Charles Lindbergh - 3
1928 - Charles Chrysler - 4 (Chrysler and Dodge merger, so pretty good)
1929 - Owen Young - 1
1930 - Mahatma Gandhi - 5
1931 - Pierre Laval - 1
1932 - FDR - 5
1933 - Hugh Johnson - 1 (Is it Hugh or Who?)
1934 - Haile Selassie - 2
1935 - FDR - 5
1936 - Wallis Simpson - 1 (Married a king, who then became not a king. Big deal)
1937 - Mr and Mrs Chiang Kai-shek - 3 (Averaging a 5 and a 1)
1938 - Adolf Hitler - 5 (Yes, good choice. It's importance, not popularity)
1939 - Joseph Stalin - 5 (Ditto)
1940 - Winston Churchill - 5
1941  - FDR - 4 (Debit one point for hogging the award)
1942 - Joseph Stalin - 5
1943 - George Marshall - 3
1944 - Dwight Eisenhower - 4
1945 - Harry Truman - 5
1946 - James Byrnes - 2 (He was secretary of state, but so?)
1947 - George Marshall - 5 (Upgraded for the Marshall Plan)
1948 - Harry Truman - 5
1949 - Winston Churchill - 2
1950 - The American Fighting Man - 1 (And so begins the diluting of the award)
1951 - Mohammad Mossadegh - 1 (An Iranian before Iran became important)
1952 - Elizabeth II - 2 (Her first year, so hadn't really done anything yet. Come to think of it, what has she done since?)
1953 - Konrad Adenauer - 3
1954 - John Foster Dulles - 4
1955 - Harlow Curtis - 1 (In the fine tradition of Own Young and Pierre Laval)
1956 - The Hungarian Freedom Fighter - 1
1957 - Nikita Kruschev - 5
1958 - Charles de Gaulle - 4
1959 - Dwight Eisenhower - 5 (Nice job, Ike. Others have won twice, but not for entirely different reasons.)
1960 - U.S. Scientists - 1 (Try to name US scientist from 1960)
1961 - JFK - 4
1962 - Pope John - 4
1963 - Martin Luther King - 4
1965- William Westmoreland - 3
1966 - The Inheritor - 1 (Maybe the most puzzling one yet)
1967 - LBJ - 5
1968 - The Apollo 8 Astronauts (Another group, but at least there are only 3)

There have been a lot of them. To many for me to deal with now. The other half later.
