So we leave the Iowa State Fair. It was not thrilling, but fine. Fairs have a lot of animals. I don't like animals. There were tons of people. I'm not really crazy about people either. But it was fine.

Not far from their is Winterset, Iowa. The home of John Wayne. I'm not missing that. This will be fine because I don't have my hopes up. It turns out to be good that I didn't have my hopes up. His house was there and they had a statue of John. That was cool. There is a gift shop that was nice by way over priced. Example? A cowboy hat for $150 dollars. Most everything was kind of obscenely overpriced. Also, you could tour the inside of his house. That was $20. Again, way too much. It isn't even a guided tour. Just walk through a small house that John lived in a few years. All he did here was be born. All the stuff he did that he was famous for was done elsewhere.
That's is why we keep our expectations low. Here is another good reason. The Bridges of Madison County. Turns out Winterset, Iowa is in Madison County. And it has the bridges used in the movie. It isn't just a bad movie, it's now a tourist location. You have to drive on about 5 miles of dirt road to get to it. Borderline worth it. I shouldn't be hard on the movie as I have never seen it. But I've never seen it, because I've heard about it.
The night ends in a Motel 6 in Northern Iowa. It wasn't a hugely exciting day, but it was fine.
