London - Monday

It's Monday in London and we begin with the Tower of London. It doesn't seem like it can really be 1,000 years old. It seems in pretty good shape. My house is much younger and its a dump. So I just don't understand how these things work.

We had a tour guide who was hilarious, then on our own to just wander through the tower. We got to see where people, such as Anne Boleyn lost their heads and were buried. I get really confused by Henry the VIII's advisors. I know Thomas More, Thomas Cranmer, Thomas Cromwell. I think there was another Thomas in there too. Is that really possible all those guys were named Thomas? How he treated his wives and advisors is kind of how big stars still do it. You be a yes man for me or you get fired. Only his his case substitute getting beheaded for being fired.

Walked across the Tower Bridge. You can pay to go along the top part. It has a plexiglass floor so you can see the bridge below. I'm on the bridge below. Why would I pay money to go up high and see something I'm actually closer to now? Not to mention the fact that it would be just waiting for me to step on it and fall to my death.

We went to Greenwich, which is on the other side of the river. It's probably about 5 miles from downtown London, but you can get there by subway. It has the Prime Meridian which separates east from west. I've now stood on the Prime Meridian and the Equator. Any lines left? I guess the International Date Line, but I've never really understood how that one works anyway. It has what used to be the Royal Observatory there. Also, if you read the book Longitude, it has the instruments that were built by John Harrison which
 revolutionized navigation.

In the evening they had a Jack the Ripper tour. You meet in a certain spot, at 7:30 at night and a guide takes the group around and tells the story of Jack the Ripper. It was relatively inexpensive and kind of fun. It wasn't a great story as they still don't know who Jack the Ripper was, but it was fun hearing about what they do know and where the "events" took place.
