Best Game Shows of All-Time

I watched the game show network lately - The Match Game and Family Feud. Just a few minutes of each. But it got me to thinking about them. There have been a lot of them - enough to have their own network. I thought, hey let's google that and see what we find. Turns out TV Guide ranked them. So, let's take a look.

10. The Newlywed Game - We're off to a bad start. What a terrible show. Let's move on.

9. What's My Line - Now we're talking. You can rank game shows in various ways. Entertainment value, IQ needed, etc. Seems like What's My Line is one of the higher IQ game shows. You can see some interesting clips of the show on Youtube.

8. Password - Allen Ludden (Betty White's husband) was the host. You had to be pretty smart to play this one, too.

7. Hollywood Squares - Borderline whether this is really a game show. Disguised as a game show, but was really a chance to have second rate entertainers tell jokes. I used to think those guys were so clever to ad-lib those funny lines. Now I realize they were given those "ad-libs" ahead to time. So, may not deserve that high of a ranking. Paul Lynde was hilarious, though.

6. Who Wants to be a Millionaire - This one is a little different as it was a prime time hit, even a number one show. I'm not sure exactly what made this show so popular. It was basically watching people take a multiple choice test. Regis made the show great.

5. The Price is Right - I never cared for this so much, but its been around forever, so probably deserves its ranking. They should have had a spin-off, though, which was a full half hour of playing Plinko.

4. Match Game - I love this show. They would have "stars" on. It had about the same concept as Hollywood Squares. Something I've always wondered - Besides this show, what did Brett Somers ever do?

3. Family Feud - Probably has more different hosts that any long running game show. I don't care for the current guy. They leaked a memo he sent out where he says that when he walks down the hall he didn't want anyone talking to him or trying to make eye contact with him. Weirdo.

2. Wheel of Fortune - The opposite of Family Feud in that it has the most loyal hosts - Pat and Vanna. How do you not love them? The game frustrates me though. I'm no good at it.

1. Jeopardy - Yes, good choice. Has also led to the hilarious Saturday Night Live take-offs. As opposed to Pat, Alex seems like someone you might want to meet, but not necessarily spend a lot of time with.
