NYC - Day 5

Two days ago was possibly the best day of my life. Now I have this one that is maybe a top 10 day. Its not going to challenge number one because it was a little confusing, stressful, and bizarre. But it certainly was an eventful day.

I knew it was going to be pretty good, because this was the day I set aside to see the Today Show. They seem to just let people onto their plaza area and look in their window, so I figure why not me? I got there about 6:30, which is 3:30 a.m. Pacific time, but that's OK. Anything to see my buddies Matt and Al. Al especially seems like a great guy and has always seemed very interested in what is going on in my neck of the woods, so I would love to see him. So you have to go through a little security thing to be let into their plaza, but it's no big deal. At 7:00 I got to see through the window and see the back of the heads the crew. They were coming out on the plaza just before 8:00. In the meantime, they pick out my wife, Donna, to do an "Ambush Makeover". There were what looked like bigwig producers standing in the middle of the plaza. They kind of took turns looking at her then talking as a group. I thought, "Something is going down here. I'm just not sure what." So a couple of them them eventually come over and ask her if she would like to do it. She of course said yes and then was told she would get asked officially on camera and to act surprised. This is all getting a little weird. So they take her away and tell my daughter, Karen, and I to come to the NBC lobby at 9:45.

In the meantime, the crew comes out to do the 8:00 news. After doing the weather, Al circulates and I got to shake his hand. A hand I still have not washed since then. Just the coolest thing ever. So anyway, time goes by and we go to the NBC lobby like we belong there or something. We're taken to the Orange Room where people hang out before they go on. Not as nice as I imagined it would be, but still cool. Then we're taken upstairs. Walking his bike down the hall is Al Roker! I said "Hi, Al" and he said hi back to me. My life is now complete. If I thought of it I would have asked him if he wanted to ride bikes together later, but I didn't. So we're taken upstairs and there is Hoda and Kathie Lee. We get blind folded and have to respond to Donna being unveiled. That is the stressful part I didn't like. Should I plan what I'm going to say, or just wing it? I don't know what I was going to see, so I decide I just have to wing it. I don't like doing that, and being blindfolded is a little disorienting anyway, but I got through it. I thought maybe I would get to hobnob with Hoda and Kathie Lee, but no. Once that was done it was commercial time and they're off to another part of the studio to get prepped for the next segment. However, on their way they said hi to me and patted me on the shoulder. I got talked to and touched by Al, Hoda, and Kathie Lee today. Sell my clothes, I'm goin to heaven.

So that takes us up to 10:30 this morning. I'm exhausted now just reliving it. So I'll have to do the rest of the day on the next blog. I need to take a nap.
