NYC - Day 3

This is maybe the least interesting of my NY adventure days, but still its New York, so more exciting than my typical day. Ever see You've Got Mail. I think that would qualify as a "chick flick". If you talk street, like I do, you'll know what that means. I think I like it mostly because it has bookstores in it and I like them. Anyway I found the location shown at the end of the movie where Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan have their happy ending. When you go to a new city, do your homework ahead of time and you can fine things like that, the Seinfeld restaurant, etc. I used to have the soundtrack for that movie. I can't get that out of my head now - Just like I couldn't get Seinfeld music out of my head and, having a hotel on the East Side, I can NOT get the theme from the Jeffersons to go away.

I found out that Alexander Hamilton had a house in NYC. Its part of the park service, so I can use the card I have to get in free. It was a ways on the subway and several blocks walking, but we finally made it. Closed. Swing and a miss.

There is a New York Historical Museum just three blocks from the hotel. I thought I could at least go to their gift shop and from there I could see if I wanted to see the museum. The gift shop wasn't all that great and from what I could see of it, neither was the museum. I don't really like museums usually. I like historic places and things. Museums are places that talk about and explain historic places and things. Not quite as good. Plus it was $20. I passed on that.

I went by the Dakota building, where John Lennon was shot. The location looks exactly the same. A few blocks away they have a memorial for him in Central Park called Strawberry Fields. I've been there a couple times. Each time there is someone there with a guitar singing Beatle songs for tips. As I left, there was someone else walking up with a guitar. I guess it was time for a shift change.

I always thought the Metropolitan Museum of Art would be cool. I was disappointed in it. It was huge and confusing. A lot of things you would try to get to were blocked off. Also, for the most part I didn't care for the people that worked there. There is the stereotype of art people being kind of snooty. Turns out its true. They should make a For Dummies guide to let people know what the cool stuff is and isn't - Because I really don't know. Maybe big signs that say, "This one is famous. Look at it for awhile. Preferably, snootily." Some of it didn't seem like art, but what do I know? I saw Washington Crossing the Delaware. Its a lot bigger than I thought it would be. That was fun.

So, compared to my other days this wasn't as good. But compared to a typical day of my life, it was still really fun.
