I haven't been blogging for a while. I've been busy in New York City. Oh, that's right. The Big Apple. I'm spending six full days there. So let me give the details one day at a time. I'll have to pick up the pace on the blogging. It won't be in real time, but that's OK.
Here we go - we fly in on a Saturday. I'm hardly ever anxious about flights anymore. I've faced my fears. I'm still not crazy about take offs, but I close my eyes and go into denial for a few minutes and then everything is fine. We land at JFK and with a combination of subways make it to our hotel. It takes almost three hours, but that's fine. I bought a Yankees hat at home for the trip, so I won't look like a tourist. I've seen a million people today and only one other person had a Yankee hat on. So the hat is probably a dead giveaway that your really are a tourist. I might as well just wear a t-shirt that says Mug Me.
That doesn't count as a day. That was day zero. Sunday, the first full day in NY, is Day 1. I went to church today at St. Patrick's Cathedral. I got there early so I went and saw the Today Show taping on the plaza which was just a couple of blocks away. How cool is that? Its Sunday, so they didn't have their A team there, but still cool. St. Patrick's was awesome. We sat behind a guy who looked just like John Gotti or some Sopranos kind of guy. He had the slicked back hair and the scarf. He had it all working.
I am able to definitively answer who is buried in Grant's tomb. It's Grant. Case closed. I think I have 9 Presidents left to go. Dropped by a few other sites - Macy's, Empire State Building, Columbia University. I went to the spot where John Lennon was shot. It turns out that is about 3 block from our hotel.
Dinner was at Tom's Restaurant. Its the one that you see the picture of on Seinfeld. They filmed the scenes at their studio, so the inside doesn't look the same, although it has booths to sit at, so it was a lot of fun. Day 1 - in the books.
