Mr. Spock and Comic-Con

Mr. Spock passed away. That is too bad. I had also hear about Dr. Spock that taught about how to raise children. I thought, "Wow, that guy is versatile." And if he really was a doctor, seems like they would have had him play the role of the doctor on Star Trek. I turns out they are two different people, but of course that possibility didn't occur to me for a long time. It all makes sense now.

Speaking of that, it reminds me of my one and only trip to a comic-con. I'm sure I blogged about this before, but, hey, a big event like that deserves another mention. Lt. Uhura, Captain Kirk, and the oriental guy whose name I can't think of were all there. I got pictures of all of them. To meet them meant you had to wait in a long line to get their autograph, which you had to pay for. I don't remember how much it was, but I remember being shocked by the amount. They had bouncers that wouldn't let you get too close, so my pictures didn't come out great. (Speaking of bouncer-type people, Lou Ferrigno, the incredible hulk was also at the same set of tables. That wasn't trick photography on his show. Just one of his arms is roughly the same size as my body. He looks massively strong. I'm sure it would take him about a half-second to beat me up.) Anyway, most my pictures weren't great. It was super crowded and because of the distance I was away, people would walk between the person and me when I was getting a pic. But if you take a large enough volume of pictures, you'll eventually get some usable ones. I got super close to Kirk, though. I snuck around to the side and got a profile shot of him through some curtains. If I had been a Klingon, he'd be dead. Alas, Leonard Nimoy wasn't at the convention. I don't think we felt above that, though. He didn't seem like the pompous type. However, the person who played the pink ranger on Power Rangers was at it, by you had to pay an extra like $50 to go to a separate room to even get a glimpse of her. How could someone with that little claim to fame feel so elevated? I don't know. The other Star Trek guys though seemed friendly and glad to be there. I don't want to speak ill of her, though. I'm sure the pink power ranger could also beat me up.

So, you should go, especially if you are at all into science fiction. They had a bunch of people I didn't know from Dr. Who and countless zombie shows. It is also entertaining to see the people in attendance that have spent too much time and effort and too little self-esteem on costumes. (e.g., these guys.)
