Nice Quarterbacks

There are some nice quarterbacks around now. There happen to be two in the Northwest. I keep hearing stories about Wilson, the Seattle quarterback and how he might be too nice of a guy. Same thing about the Oregon quarterback, Mariota. People that make comments like that I think are probably a little on the pompous/jerk side and they are saying that to justify their own pomposity/jerkiness. I'm guessing they're of the same ilk that loved to make fun of Tim Tebow - another really nice quarterback. It seems like these guys aren't just nice - they're exceptionally nice. They do charity work, they congratulate opposing players, they get together to pray after the game is over...

What made me think about this in the first place is that I just got done reading a book about Bart Starr. He's a quarterback that played quite a while ago. I really didn't know a lot about him. He played for Green Bay and was the winning quarterback and MVP of the first two Super Bowls. They won three NFL championships before the Super Bowl even came along, so he probably would have won five Super Bowls if they had them. A lot of the book was football, but a lot of it was just how nice of a guy he was, his charity work, and how much people liked and respected him.

There are probably more really nice quarterback and players generally out there. They just get over shadowed by players that have a lot of un-niceness issues. Anyway, those quarterbacks are my role models for when I end up quarterbacking in the NFL.
