I've been away from a computer, so I haven't been bloggin it for like a week. I'm back East for a few days. The flight back was pretty much uneventful. That's good. I don't like events when I'm up in the sky. Most of the trip was a flight to Newark, New Jersey. Then it was a 35 minute flight to Albany. I was 95% brave on the flight. A few moments of turbulence got my attention, but otherwise I was cool.
We took off from Newark and I had a window seat. Usually I wouldn't even look out the window during blast-off, because it causes me, not a lot, but at least a little anxiety. This time, after the first terrifying minute, I did look. It was cool. Newark has what looks like their own Statue of Liberty in their harbor. Newark is a lot bigger than I thought. It's got a ton of huge skyscrapers. It had a really nice park in the middle of the city, then even more skyscrapers. Newark is so...wait a minute. Wait just a minute. You may be way ahead of me on this, but it turns out Newark is right next to New York City. That's what I had been looking at the whole time. I felt stupid. Especially bad is that I think most of my running commentary might have been out loud. "Look, Newark is trying to copy New York with their own lame Statue of Liberty." I'm sure anyone that might have heard me thought I was stupid. That's OK, I'll likely never see them again. The final give away was when I saw what I was sure was Madison Square Garden. I don't know why I know what that looks like from the air. I just do. By the way, most buildings are square. Isn't it weird that Madison Square Garden is round. It seems odd. Not a big deal - just kind of interesting.
After getting things figured out, I wished I knew it was NYC at the time. That was a cool experience flying right over Manhattan at sunset. I still have that whole experience pictured though, so I can relieve it. I'll just replay it in my mind this time knowing its not Newark.
